Sports

Boys Basketball-After taking a beating the first time around the block, the men’s 8th grade basketball team triumphed over Memorial in a white-knuckled, nail-biting victory for their third straight win. Spencer Lapierre, Ryan Gilbert, and Brian Rex-in-Effect played solid ball, while Kyle Curley nabbed key points. Alex Owens and his Orville-Redenbacher-bow-tie also had a strong game. The shining moment came with 5 seconds left on the clock and Dan “The Man With a Plan” Holmes was given two free throws. After nearly airballing his first shot, things were looking grim, but the force was strong with Holmes and it guided him to score, putting the Rams up 48-47. With a three point foul at the buzzer, Memorial had a chance to tear the win from Gorham’s vice-gripped clutches…not so. The opportunity was squandered. In fact, Memorial would’ve been better off grabbin’ their umbrella because the Rams made it rain.

Boys basketball continued…..The Gorham Rams 7th Grade boy’s basketball team outlasted Memorial 39-35 to move to 8 and 0 on the season. Nick Greatorex had a game high 16 points for the Rams. Frank Pappalardo, Jon Woods, Austin Bell, and Matt Melton helped lead a suffocating press to build a 10 point lead in the third quarter. With one minute left in a 2 point game, Gage Pratt had a huge steal and then scored a basket on the next trip down the court to seal the victory. The Rams will look to continue their unbeaten ways next Wednesday when they host the Windham Eagles. Good luck Rams!
