Competition winners!

A wonderful thing happened Wednesday in Augusta. GMS had two sets of 3rd place victories at the Maine History Day Competition. There were 125 students competing and it was the biggest year yet for Maine History Day.

Emily Stickney, grade 8, Monhegan Team, placed 3rd in the Junior Individual Documentary category with her Keynote presentation "Mother Theresa." Emily is an alternate for attending the national competition.

Ben Hincher and Michael Susi, grade 6, Eagle Team students, placed 3rd in the Group Exhibit category with their poster presentation about Andrew Jackson. These boys qualify as alternates to the national competition being held in June at the University of Maryland campus outside Washington, D.C.

Kudos go out to Mrs. Tassey, Monhegan Language Arts teacher, and Ms. Lord, technology integrator, for all their help.

Congratulations are in order for Taylor Plaz and Bethany Marshburn-Ursek for presenting their great Keynote documentaries as well.

Next year's competition topic is, "Innovations in History."
