A Middle School Dual

The Gorham Middle School report card will have a new look this year. A dual reporting system was designed to give students, parents and teachers more information about student learning and achievement in relation to our state and district learning standards. The new report card will communicate student progress through conventional grades while expanding on the most essential learning standards.

You are invited to participate in a parent focus group session on Wednesday, October 14, 2009 at 6:00 PM in the middle school library to give us your ideas and input about the kind of information you want in a reporting system. A brief PowerPoint explaining standards-based reporting will be the springboard to a group discussion. Topics to be discuss are:

· What is a dual reporting system?
· What are the concerns about a standards-based report card at the middle school? What are the benefits?
· What is a Power Standard?
· What motivates your student to learn?
· What is a Parent Portal? How will the portal keep parents informed about homework completion and assessment performance?
· How will behaviors and work habits be reported?
