A Middle School Dual

The Gorham Middle School report card will have a new look this year. A dual reporting system was designed to give students, parents and teachers more information about student learning and achievement in relation to our state and district learning standards. The new report card will communicate student progress through conventional grades while expanding on the most essential learning standards.

You are invited to participate in a parent focus group session on Wednesday, October 14, 2009 at 6:00 PM in the middle school library to give us your ideas and input about the kind of information you want in a reporting system. A brief PowerPoint explaining standards-based reporting will be the springboard to a group discussion. Topics to be discussed are:

· What is a dual reporting system?
· What are the concerns about a standards-based report card at the middle school? What are the benefits?
· What is a Power Standard?
· What motivates your student to learn?
· What is a Parent Portal? How will the portal keep parents informed about homework completion and assessment performance?
· How will behaviors and work habits be reported?

We hope you will join us Wednesday evening to share your
thoughts with us.
Refreshments will be served!



DANCE
There is a dance this Friday, October 16th from 7-9. Come and dance the night away with all your friends.

MATH TEAM
Math Team will be starting next Wednesday, October 21st at 7:00am. Any 7th or 8th grader is welcome to join this challenging team. It will be held in A200 Mrs. McAtee’s room.

CHORUS
There is Chorus for 6th & 7th Grade today.

We are gearing up to kick off this year’s Gorham Middle School musical! There will be a meeting next Wednesday, October 21st in the morning at 7:35am for anyone interested in being a part of this year’s musical, Kamp Kaos! Be sure to make plans to be there!

LIBRARY
The Library will be closed for testing this morning during the 8:00 Tutorial/SSR time. Teachers-please do not send students to the Library for copies or printouts.

GUITAR WORKSHOP
Do you play guitar? Are you interested in interacting with other guitar players? If so, join the guitar workshop. Please see Mr. Lambert in room B210 to sign up and get details.

X-COUNTRY
All Cross Country runners should be changed and ready to leave for the race from the cafeteria at 2:30 today.

ANNIE, JR. PLAY
Practice today for ALL Annie, Jr. cast! If you have any notes or questions, please see either Kyley Butler or Eric DeLuca in the 8th grade wing. Everyone should be there today. Also, there is a Stage Crew meeting tomorrow, Thursday, after school until 4:00 pm for those that are interested.

THE DEC
Need to back up your files? Mrs. Dawson has 2 Gig Gorham Ram Flash drives available for sale before and after school in THE DEC. They are $10 each.
